Factors Associated With HIV Testing in Teenage Men Who Have Sex With Men

Diagnosis of HIV soon after infection is critical to treating HIV and preventing transmission. However, a recent study funded by NIMHD reports that less than a quarter of the adolescent men at highest risk of HIV infection are tested for HIV.

The study, published in the journal Pediatrics, found that conversations with clinicians about HIV and sexual orientation play an important role in increasing testing among high-risk teens. Researchers suggested nonverbal ways for pediatricians to encourage these conversations, such as making minor adaptations to the office environment to demonstrate inclusivity.
